Tips to Find a Mattress for Improved Health

Getting a restful night’s sleep is key to dealing with a whole host of medical conditions and to do this you need the right mattress. An uncomfortable mattress can lead to poor sleep, low back pain and a whole litany of other complaints. Even something as seemingly mundane as the material your mattress is made from can have a negative effect on your body temperature and your rest.
Because choosing the right bed is essential to health, here are some tips for finding the right mattress:

1. Learn about different mattress types
Not all mattresses are created equal and that’s a good thing because not all sleepers find the same things comfortable. Some people like a firm supportive mattress while others enjoy the feeling of sinking in and may choose a plush option. You likely know your preference so do some research into the many types memory foam, innerspring, pocked coil etc. If you like firm supportive mattresses then look for the more rigid types and if you like form fitting maybe look at memory foam.

2. Ask your healthcare provider
You may be looking to buy a new mattress because you are experiencing hip and shoulder pain or something similar. If this is the case you are likely consulting a doctor about the discomfort so why not ask their advice? Doctors not only treat conditions they also understand what can cause them so they may have suggestions as to the type of mattress you may need to help alleviate pressure on your affected joints.

3. Test out mattresses
Many mattress showrooms are absolutely fine with customers giving their mattresses a try. So armed with your research and doctor’s advice, head down to the store with some shoes that slip off easily and lay on a few display mattresses. Test them out by laying in your normal sleeping position on both edges of the mattress and the center. You should try a few options to see which one feels most comfortable.

4. Ask for recommendations
You may have gone to the store in search of particular mattresses but it doesn’t stop you asking the employees for recommendations. They are looking to sell you a mattress so they will be more than happy to listen to your requirements and point you in the direction of options you may not have considered. Also, remember even before you go to the store you could ask friends and family for suggestions too. Everyone sleeps and not everyone has the same mattress.

5. Read reviews
You may have narrowed down your options to two or three mattresses by this point so how do you choose? Well, others have likely purchased these products before and if they loved them they might have left a review online. Additionally, if people have had cause to regret their purchase they are very likely to have reviewed the product. Search reviews for your potential mattresses to find out if they stay comfortable, if they start to break, maybe they tend to cause uncomfortable sleep because of trapping warmth. The more you know the better the chances you will find a great mattress that will help your health by offering great sleep.
